Believe me when I say nothing can prepare you for the beauty of Venice.  I mean those glossy pictures of Venice in magazines and even the pictures on this post don’t do justice to express the magic of the place.  I was oohed and awed by beauty available until I could say no word.  I just sat there in the water bus and got consumed in thoughts and in trying to understand the minds behind the creation of this magnificent place.  Venice is constructed right in the sea.  Buildings are protruding from the sea.  I really thought I was prepared to see all this, but I was not.  Before I slept that night I found myself glued into my tablet screen trying google out how on earth was this place made.

Our second day in Venice was Christmas day.  We just sat in the water busses and just rocked the water.  We sat partly because we were admiring the place and partly because we were tired of trying to find our way around.  We armed ourselves with a map of sea bus routes.  Once we grasp the logic of the map things got easier in the next 3 days we spent in Venice.

Let me shut up and let you have a look at the pictures in peace.

Picturesque and awe-inspiring.

Venice is just exceptional. I just run out of words to explain why. I have tried your patience in this post going on about Venice. I have tried to get it out of my system but let me tell you something.  Venice is Venice, it will be the same as this pretty descriptions above for the next 20 years at least.  Should you decide to visit it in 20 years to come, you will find it still the same.

Tips:

  • When visiting Venice in December, invest in water proved shoes.  The place can be very wet.
  • Purchase water bus pass for the number of days you are going to spend in Venice.  Water busses will be your only means of transport around Venice.
  • Throw away the map of Venice streets and instead hunt for water bus maps.  Once you orientate yourself to the map you will see many places.
  • This advice is overrated but very true.  Get lost in the streets of Venice.  You cant get lost to the point of calling the police, places are not that big.
  • Be careful about going to Murano and Burano Island.  Water busses can be scarce and not operational some days.
  • While you are admiring the place take some time to sit on the bench and give your wee ones some attention.  Chase them around or give them some kisses.  Entertain them.  It will seem like a waste of time but once they start tantrums your whole day will be spoilt.
  • Have a list of restaurants and food you want to try but be flexible.  Sometimes just close the list of tried and tested, try something totally new.  You are a unique individual and you deserve unique experiences.

Have a productive day!

Take care,
Nez
