The best of Switzerland – Geneva
Written by Nez, Posted in Travel, Comments: Want to make another one
I always wanted to see Geneva. It was in the list of the prettiest places in the world that I wanted to see that I drafted back when I was in University. Just imagine how excited I was when I finally laid my feet in this city. I was over the moon. So I wanted to see almost everything, my list was endless. We then decided to go for a boat cruise, a city bus tour and a tramway tour through the city’s narrow streets. We wanted to see the best that the city has to offer.
The boat cruise.
Like Eifel Tower in Paris – the landmark of France, The Jet d’Eau – Geneva’s land mark sticks to your mind. Cullo had to drag me out of the place because if he let me I would have spent all the time staring at this jet as it shoots 140m up the sky. He kept on saying “its only water”. No, it was not only water. I was completely under its spell. The atmosphere around Jet d’Eau was just invigorating.
Muli felt the energy in the atmosphere. She made a dance at the flower clock as we entered The Jardine Anglais.
We made our way to the boat we booked. We arrived early with the intentions of getting the right spot and absorb the voice guide as we viewing the scenery. When the boat started we realised we have this whole part to ourselves.
We started doing things that we can do when its only the three of us.
And allowed Muli to eat ice cream.
The scenery was amazing. I liked these two friends absorbing the sun sitting on the mermaid statue.
Really amazing.
The day was perfect for the boat cruise.
The Luxury bus tour
We stayed back and relaxed as we were seeing Geneva’s popular sites in a bus tour.
Monument Brunswick
The Duke of Brunswick, Charles d’Este-Guelph, In 1873, he died and on his will he gave immense fortune to Geneva in exchange for a beautiful funeral and a monument to his name. The monument was built in the Jardin des Alpes.
The United Nations building with the flags of the member countries.
Broken Chair
The Chair stands proudly to a height of 12 metres with the fourth being splintered half way up. Its message is remember the victims of landmines, urge your government to promote a ban on landmines. I think its a lovely piece of art.
The tram tour.
The tram ride goes through the narrow streets. Old Town was lovely. Restaurants were packed with locals and tourist.
At Cathedrale Saint-Pierre, we were allowed sometime to take a walk.
Time to let off some steam.
Dancing in front of Cathedrale Saint-Pierre.
The Reformation Walls
You can not miss this statues as you entering in a very lovely Parc des Bastions. The individuals portrayed, played a major role in the translation of bible into different languages and versions.
This was a very effective way of seeing the best of Geneva. More so when you have kiddos. After doing all the tours we had some time to walk around seeing some sights.
Next post will be update of Germany-Munich and Austria-Vienna.
Take care,
