Goodday Lovelies!
Beaugency is a small old town in the Loire Valley. The medieval city belongs to the network of the “Most Beautiful Detours in France.” It is popular to cyclist as the Loire a velo trail pass by this town, 30km to Orleans and another 30km to Blois. A journey by train took us to Beaugency.
I have to say The French are extremely proud of their heritage and do everything they can to preserve it. You might think houses like these have been abandoned. No, these houses have been carefully reinforced and refurbished making sure not to keep their ‘”old century look”.
Its is very easy to see why this village is one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is these beautiful flowers on the streets that give it a very welcoming look.
I touched them just to check if they are real. And they are. They are all over town.
There is no better way to explore the village than taking a walk. Walking down the cobblestone streets and harmonious half timbered houses.
The medieval fortress, the dominant feature of Beaugency.
The village is charming and lovely to amble around and marvel at the architecture. There is plenty to admire.
It is in these alleys and narrow side streets where you will see most authentic medieval buildings and architecture. There are some boutique shops, restaurants and shops selling paintings.
I just like it when the widow shutters have similar colour. It create some sort of charm and makes lovely pictures.
Our hotel was stone throw away from Place du Martroi – the city’s square. There is a restaurant that captured Muli’s heart in the city square. First time we pass by she asked if we can sit and eat. It was after a long day and I liked the idea. Next day same thing happened and this time she cried and kicked because I initially refused her request. After I saw her sobbing for an hour I took her there. She wanted the same pizza she had last time. Yikes!
Amazing street. Have a look at the shades of gold and burnt orange colour of leaves on the ground.
In medieval times, all cities and most towns were protected by walls or ramparts. Due to city expansion and industrial revolution most of the walls were torn down. The wall in the picture below stand as a reminder to medieval times.
.As if Beaugency wasn’t charming enough, seeing the streets blazing with autumn colours was simply breathtaking. And Muli had fun playing with the dry leaves.
One evening we took a stroll along the Loire valley to appreciate the setting. The long span of bridge create a picturesque setting.
And this old boat house along the river bank was amazing.
Take full advantage of the season. Here in France its all about fall leaves on the streets as we getting closer to winter.
Take care,
Nez
