When expat life is over…

Written by , Posted in Travel

I did not expect to mourn the loss of my expat status.  I mean I always knew without doubt that I love SA.  My childhood friends, my family, my culture and my everything is right here in Mzantsi.  Despite all the comfort of being home, I often get hit by the wave of longing for my life abroad.  The thought of the possibilities of never seeing my French friends and missing French culture as much as I love my own. Back home I can auto pilot every move I make.  No need for a GPS, no need to map out […]

Oh! how I missed the white, long sandy beaches of Cape Town.  Last week we spent most of our days at Camps bay.  Camps bay is one of the trendiest and most beautiful beaches in Cape Town. It attracts thousands of local people and tourist in summer seasons.  Last week the beach was not packed as it was a week after new years day.  There is so much to do to pass time.  One can just lie down by the palm trees and be delighted as they feast the eyes to the amazing view of lions head. I also like […]

{Sit back and take a mind journey with me to Portugal.  The post is picture loaded, you are warned!.  I am covering 3 days of adventure in one post because, I don’t want the update to overlap to next year}. Yes, take me back to Porto.  Two weeks back we were in Porto.  The beauty of the place is engraved in my memory.  I can still remember the small details.  The buildings piled on top of one another and the clothes drying in laundry lines. The smell of brewing wine as we entered the Calem wine cellars, The sight of […]

Quicker than a blink of an eye.

Written by , Posted in Travel

That is to sum up the time I spent in France – it was quicker than a blink of an eye.   I have been very busy in the last few days.  At the end of the day all I want is to unwind.  Documenting our lives has taken a back seat. This coming Saturday we will be going to Portugal and Lisbon.  It will be our last big trip in Europe.  So we are doing a lot of goodbyes because when we come back we will be left with couple of days before we travel back to SA. Saying goodbyes […]

Hello There! It is Friday once again. This week went by so fast for me.  I had a lot to do after spending almost two weeks in bed,.  I had house keeping work to do, round cheeks to kiss, entertainment for a family to plan.  Its true the days goes by fast when you are busy. Lets keep it light and short this Friday and talk about French windows.  Windows in France are eye catching.  There is always something to admire about French facade.  We all know that they have one of the most beautiful  Architectures.  Their windows are just […]

A Weekend in Paris.

Hello there! We spent 3 nights in Paris (the 8th to 10th of this months).  I like that I did not have to do all the planning.  It was a beautiful surprise from Cullo.  When he came back from work that Friday he said:  “I booked us three nights in Paris, get packing we leaving tomorrow morning”.  I was besides myself.  All I was worried about was if Muli had enough warm clean clothes.  Luckily she had enough. On Saturday  morning we left Tours and arrived in Paris about 2pm.  After checking in and having lunch we headed to Eifel […]

The cobbled streets of Beaugency.

Goodday Lovelies! Beaugency is a small old town in the Loire Valley.  The medieval city belongs to the network of the “Most Beautiful Detours in France.”  It is popular to cyclist as the Loire a velo trail pass by this town, 30km to Orleans and another 30km to Blois.  A journey by train took us to Beaugency. I have to say The French are extremely proud of their heritage and do everything they can to preserve it. You might think houses like these have been abandoned.  No, these houses have been carefully reinforced and refurbished making sure not to keep […]

A journey by train.

rail.74110_thumb.jpg

Image source Hello Friends! There is something stinking romantic about rail travel.  I’m not talking about the sort of ride that you find yourself squashed back to back or face to face against a sweaty stranger on your way back from work.  I’m taking about the long distance travel, the ride that lets your mind wonder as the train  passes through rivers, deserts and hills.. I have a lot of memories travelling by train during my first year at university but the one that stood out is the rail journey I took with Cullo. We have just been dating for […]

Biking to Villandry Castle.

Hello Lovelies! Yesterday I wanted to spend a day working on my assignment, like an academic assignment.  It turned out that Cullo had a day off.  He wanted to spend a day with Muli at home.  A very good excuse for me to think about a quick adventure.  They both deserve a day together, just the two of them. With weather that good, well assignments could wait.  I decided from nowhere to cycle 20km to Villandry Chateaux. In no time Cullo and Muli came out to wave me good bye and I was off. Villandry Chateaux / Castle is one […]

Without being too emotional let me welcome you to Brussels. This is the capital City of Belgium .  Spoken language is French and Dutch. When we arrived in Brussels, It felt like we were finally back in France.  The reason being:1). it was our last destination, 2) in reality it is closer to […]
